Tucson opens a new cooling center

In response to rising temperatures, Tucson has officially opened a new cooling center to provide relief for its residents. The cooling center is located at the Amazon Shelter, 1135 W. Miracle Mile.

People who need to escape the heat can head directly into the cooling center which will be equipped with cots for rest, televisions, board games, snacks, and personal hygiene items. Staff is also working to secure Wi-Fi access in the center.

The Amazon cooling center will be available from 12-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and will operate until August 31. There are currently six cooling centers in Tucson:

  • Donna Liggins Center, 2160 N. 6th
  • El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Rd., Building #9
  • El Rio Center, 1390 W. Speedway Blvd.
  • Freedom Center, 5000 E. 29th
  • Morris K. Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Rd.
  • Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way.
